Frequently Asked Questions

Accident Reports:  Copies of accident reports are $8.00. Newburgh Police Department only has copies of reports for which the department has worked. No reports will be mailed without first receiving payment, nor does the department fax copies. If you send your payment to the department and would like the copy sent back to you, please submit a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.

Criminal Record Check:  Residents of the Town of Newburgh can request a criminal record check through the Chief of Police. The cost for this is $7.00.

Fingerprinting:  There is a $15.00 charge for fingerprinting and it can be done at the office.

Title Checks:  There is a fee of $5.00 for title checks. If you live within the corporate limits of Newburgh, you may call the police department and an officer will come by your house, or if you can bring your vehicle to the department, it can be done there as well. If you live outside the town limits, please call the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department at 897-1200 and a deputy will be dispatched to your location.

• If you do not live within the corporate limits of Newburgh and you would like to report a crime or a suspicious person/incident, you will need to call the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department at 897-1200 or 911.

• General questions can be received at 812-853-1723.

• If you have an emergency, you should call 911 or 812-897-1200 and an officer will be dispatched to your location.

Handgun Permits:  The online application process is administered by the Indiana State Police Firearms Licensing Section.  Applications can be found online at:  http://aries.in.gov/Firearms/Permit.aspx

If you are a resident of the Town of Newburgh and have completed your handgun application online, you may come to the Newburgh Police Department to complete the process. 

  • Four-year Personal Protection permit - $10.00 paid to the Town of Newburgh; $30.00 paid to the State of Indiana to be sent with application.

  • Lifetime Personal Protection permit (if a valid permit is in effect) - $40.00 paid to the Town of Newburgh; $60.00 paid to the State of Indiana to be sent with application.

  • Lifetime Personal Protection permit (if a permit has expired) -  $50.00 paid to the Town of Newburgh; $75.00 paid to the State of Indiana to be sent with application.

Report Copies:  Copies of reports on file are $8.00.

• The department accepts cash, checks, or money orders. Credit cards cannot be accepted for payment.

• Photos from accidents or investigations can be obtained for $5.00 per disk.

• No copies of reports will be released while an investigation is ongoing. You may request a copy of a report once the investigation is complete.
